About Winter Garten ( words by Signe Emdal ):
Winter Garten is a knitted silence experiment, transforming the identity of a room with knitted textiles. This time, I was working around the legendary Nathaniel Ward and his invension of the glass box:
Midt 19th century: Nathaniel Ward (a victorian gentleman) invents a transportable glass box for exotic plants to stay alive during transport from the far East.
This glass box allows the european upper class to build miniature jungles in cities. A trend starts with especially Ferns & palm-tree plants. Everybody wants an indoor glass-cabinet with exotic plants.

Words by Direktorenhaus:
Direktorenhaus presents the new show of 4 young textile designers: The 5th Element. From 5th of July until the 30th of July 2011 the Direktorenhaus changes into a mazy wintergarden of knitted materials, woven textiles, organic objects and hand-stitched fabrics.
The exhibition is showcasing for the first time works of Signe Emdal (Kopenhagen), Hao-Ni Tsai (London), Ruth Duff (Glasgow) and Izumi Sato (Stockholm) in Berlin.
