Bio by Helen Adams ~

Signe Emdal (b. 1979 Copenhagen, Denmark) is an artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her work is a series of enigmatic meditations on identity, the past, present and future. Movement, shifting timelines, and changes of environment profoundly influence her artistic practice.

Following an MA in Textile Design at Designskilen Kolding, Denmark, Emdal pursued a career in knit before being drawn to creating innovative weaving techniques.

Her art seeks to offer experiences of empowerment, adaptability, and care. Her process and materials embody both fragility and resistance, evoking a sensory and emotional connection between the viewer and the art. Moving beyond the material, her creative process unfolds organically through lived experience, allowing reflection and personal narrative to shape each piece.

Emdal’s work has been exhibited worldwide and is in private and museum collections including Malmø Art Museum, Sweden and the collection of the Danish Art Foundation.
