WINTER GARTEN
2011/ Knitted silence experience at Direktoren Haus Berlin
Gallery Direktorenhaus Berlin exhibited one of Signe Emdal´s knitted silence experiments. Transforming the identity of a room with knitted textiles, this time working around the legendary Nathaniel Ward and his invension of the glass box. Midt 19th century: Nathaniel Ward (a victorian gentleman) invents a transportable glass box for exotic plants to stay alive during transport from the far East. The glass box allows the european upper class to build miniature jungles. A trend starts with especially Ferns & palm-tree plants. Everybody wants an indoor glass-cabinet with exotic plants.
